Huge price reductions on brakes

post image In these challenging times, running a Porsche is more expensive than ever. We have worked with our suppliers and have been able to significantly reduce nearly all of our brake prices, in some cases by over 20%. These are permanent reductions, not a promotion and should really help if you need new brakes.

You can find the prices for your car here.

Providing your own parts

A significant minority of customers want to provide their own parts in an attempt to save money. Unless you have significant experience of buying Porsche parts, we would advise against this.

However, unlike most specialists and all OPCs, we are happy to fit customer supplied parts but we need to protect ourselves from an unbilled visit, which could have been offered to someone else. To this end:

  • We may charge a deposit for labour
  • We will charge for any hours spent as a result of incorrect or missing parts
  • We will not provide warranty for our work

In our experience providing your own parts is a false economy but we are happy to fit them subject to the above.

PCCM+ Now available for 997.1 and 987.1!

When Porsche offered PCCM+ for the 996/986 series, so many customers asked about the 997/987 that it was inevitable that Porsche would follow. When Rob fitted PCCM+ to his 996 he described it as the single best thing he had ever done to a car. It gives you current Car Play / Android Auto technology in a unit which looks like it was in the car when it was made.

This is not a cheap upgrade but it is future proof and will transform your ownership experience. It is also more stable than the Car Play upgrade available for later models, which we have been testing.

Let us know if you would like a quote. All of our mobile technicians can do this upgrade.

A new paradigm?

So today I got up early because one of our customers had massive water damage to a hybrid car and no specialist could sort it. The Porsche dealer has no collection service so our customer paid for our collection and delivery service to take the car to the, newly refitted, Porsche dealer. We only charged £90 for this, despite the fact that the car had to be towed and collected at 0715, because we wanted to look after our customer.

I got to the shiny Porsche dealer and happily handed over the keys. I want told by the very polite lady that she could not take keys and I would have to wait. She offered me a coffee but I said “no thanks” because I assumed that I would be there for minutes.

I sat with a small group of Porsche owners who were waiting to be served. It was 8am so I wondered how early they had got up to be there. Apparently there is a shortage of service advisors…

After some time I needed the coffee, which was a latte and very nice.

Slowly the customers were attended to and off they went. One had a courtesy car and had to do a load of paperwork. Others had to get taxis to the station to work their way back to wherever. I think others had lifts.

I was also attended to but, apparently, they could not accept keys from the MD of a Porsche specialist until they had the permission of the customer. They couldn’t get hold of him so they, reluctantly, made me sign. I didn’t care – I was just trying to look after our customer.

If you are being critical of us, you would say that we should not have had to send this car to a dealer and I accept that – working on it….

But after all of the hassle and hits of the last 4 years it re-energised me. Our labour rate is well less than half of that dealer. We do most work in your drive, where you work or, frankly, anywhere else convenient which isn’t a road and, if we can’t do it there, we collect the car, do the work and deliver it back.

We aren’t as shiny and, if I am honest, the Latte was better that Nescafe. But we offer good old fashioned family company service and represent the future of this industry – if your Porsche is poorly we take the hassle and you don’t need to do anything. Why on earth should you have to get up before its light, take your car somewhere and get a taxi back?

Less is more – the perfect sports car?

I love my job. I drive different Porsches most days, as well as being an enthusiastic owner. Last week, for example, I had the privilege of driving a near concours 964 Turbo. Justifiably cherished by its owner, this car gave me an experience I will never forget.

As some of you will know, the whole Mobile Porsche Specialist adventure started with my 8 year long experience of owning a 997.1 2S. I understand why many people consider the 997 to the the zenith of the 911 range. After setting up Mobile Porsche Specialist I was seduced by a 996 mk2 in Meridian Silver with a GT Aero Kit. Having been a 996 non-lover, I was converted by the analogue rawness of the 996. Mine had no traction control so it certainly commanded respect.

In February this year, having sold my 996, I found myself the owner of a rather unloved white Cayman S. Bought as a trade in, it needed some TLC both to bodywork and mechanics but underneath the neglect was a very special car – a 987 gen 2 manual S and, being 2011, it has the later more powerful engine.

Unfortunately, with the work that was needed and the pressure of work plus 4 kids (Cayman is not an ideal family car!), I have barely done 1000 miles in 6 months and those miles have just been short runs to The Hub and back.

Until today that is…..

I had to be in Southampton at 0800 and back to work this afternoon. I was travelling alone so the Cayman was the obvious choice. I now completely get “the Cayman thing”. The car is totally sublime to drive. It is just as fast as any of my 911s but feels so much more nimble. It is noticeably lighter and feels smaller on the road. The legendary handling is out of this world with no sense of weight at the rear or lightness at the front. The brakes are just like a 911 with that slightly dead feel belying awesome power. The 3.4 litre flat 6 has always seemed smoother and sounded raspier in its mid engine position and having that wail just behind your head is simply mesmerising. Funny how the stereo stayed off!

But what I love most about this little car is what it doesn’t have. No switches on the steering wheel, no automatic AC, no switchable anything, no digital dash, no hybrid engine, no electric steering, no auto box. Not much that it doesn’t need in fact. My little Cayman has all that it needs to be the perfect drivers car – nothing more, nothing less. It won’t make me a fortune and won’t get noticed at Ace Cafe but all I wanted to do today was drive past work and keep driving all day with a smile on my face. Less really is more some times.

Happy driving!
